      Yes, of course. Although, you miss looking at that 29 inch wheel outfront. It’s a little weird going back to a 27.5 bike. The last one I rode for a couple days was the Pivot shadowcat. So much fun! But I missed that big wheel out front. That’s why the mullet makes so much sense I think!

    I guess the question I have with bikes these days is why wouldn't you get the Heckler SL? Or the Levo SL? Bikes are getting burlier and heavier. Your son has more style than any of my riding buddies 🙌. I’d love to hear your comparison in descending to the new Epic 8. I race cat 1 XC but my local trails are legit enduro/DH trails. I have the new Mach 4 and while the suspension performance is amazing it absolutely lacks stability so I’m considering something with a longer wheelbase and the cannondale has good reviews but is a little shorter than the epic.

  • @marksandoval5361
    @marksandoval5361 21 годину тому

    I'm a big fan of 150/160mm travel Trailbikes if they they don't get to long, slack, and heavy. (I'm disappointed that the new Stumpy and Fuel EX come with 150mm forks.) I also think that anyone shorter than 5'8" would benefit from riding a mullet. In general, all Trailbikes size-S and size-XS bikes should come as mullets and we are seeing that happen with some bike brands. I ride a 29er 150/160 Stumpy Evo with 2.6 Rekon front/2.4 Rekon rear tires and it weighs 31.5 pounds with pedals and bottle cage. I have the adjustable geo set with a 65* HTA and 76* STA so it doesn't get too long and slack. My Stevo rolls fast, isn't overly heavy, isn't too long, but can still suck up some big hits. If you could only own one mountain bike, that's the kind of bike I would recommend to nearly everyone and for the less tall it would come as a mullet.

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum 21 годину тому

      I’m 5’11 on an S4 stEVO and rocking the Mullet set up, and love it! Everything Jase is praising about the mullet applies to larger riders as well. Not sure why bike companies are marketing this set up strictly on smaller bikes. BTW, I 100% agree. StEVO is an amazing do-it-all trail bike. Got mine set up long, low and slack with 170 zeb and SDU coil with Cascade and it’s a mini DH sled that slays on the descents and still climbs without much fuss.

    Have you ridden a mixed wheel "mullet" bike? After riding MX wheel bikes for the past 3 weeks I think I'm converted!!! That smaller rear wheel is sooooo easy to ride. It just stays out of the way and makes everything so fun and easy!! Would you consider a 29er front 27.5 out bike for your next trail bike?

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum 12 годин тому

      I agree the full 27.5 bikes are a blast but spending as much time on 29er's as I do it's always a little unnerving to get on a bike with the smaller 27.5 wheel up front... I know it's only slightly shorter overall height but it looks so different and makes me nervous at first.... just prefer the larger wheel up front and the new MX bikes are still so maneuverable!

      @@mtbyumyum right. I think it has mostly to do with the trails we ride. Most of my trails are tight and twisty with lots of switchbacks. It looks like you have lots of wide open trails with lots of chunk and speed. Id definitely want a 29er if I was riding your trails but the 27.5’s totally suit my trails

    Jason, I noticed all your stems are very short. Although I am your height, with my long arms and legs I need at least a 140mm stem to reach my comfortable reach. Do you ever recommend going that much on stem length, or should I just go to a large frame which has the reach right on the spot?

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum 23 години тому

      I'm not a bike fitter but 140mm stem is unusual for a mountain bike. It's more common to see longer stems like that on road bikes but even on cross country mountain bikes 140mm is pretty long. If it were me I would call the guys at Salt Cycles (801-943-8502) and get a second opinion before moving forward. Good luck!!

    Hey Jason, I've watched a ton of your content, some of the videos over and over. I hope the surgery went well! ***I thought*** I had landed on the SB140LR until I saw this video. The Switchblade Brunch Ride is on sale at my LBS right now and cheaper by quite a bit that a comparably equipped SB140LR. I am an old-schooler, cutting my teeth in the 90's on a hardtail so the experience you seemed to have on the SB140LR sounded FANTASTIC (when it seems to have edged out the 2022-23 Switchblade). Yeti has also always been "the dream bike". Now, I don't know what to do 😀. We just attempted a day at Deer Valley but were doomed with horrible weather and a pretty bad crash (not mine) so my demo day on the Switchblade didn't go off great and didn't give it a fair fight. I was hoping you had time to compose your thoughts and comparisons about the 2024 Switchblade and the SB140LR. You going to be able to put that together soon?

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum 23 години тому

      Thank you. Surgery went great and now months later, my knee has never been better! Sorry you ran into bad weather.... bummer. Although the two bikes are different, the biggest factor would probably be sizing. The medium Switchblade no longer fits me and is just too big. For that reason alone I would still personally take the sb140 over the switchblade. Both are very good, different, but very good!

    Did Ibis change the length of the bike? I didn't check the geo charts. Maybe, the chain stays are longer. That can change the leverage of that DW link suspension and reduce the chatter and skipping over terrain.
